NoiZystem
Sound performance, variable duration, 2006
(Backpack, laptop and computer program, microphone, amplified
speakers)
NoiZystem is an acoustic vandalism action taking place in public spaces already saturated by sound emissions (signals in public transportation, Muzak in parking lots, pop music in fashion shops and fast food restaurants, audio advertisement in supermarkets, etc.). An embeded soundsystem consisting of a microphone, a laptop and two active speakers records surrounding sounds along a walk. It measures their amplitude and pitch to automaticaly compose a response with new noises made of digital FM synthesis to parasite them.
